BEIJING, CHINA OLYMPICS 2008. . . . . . . A panel of lawyers submitted a comprehensive legal framework concerning the
Olympic Games to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Organizing
Committee on October 25,2004. The framework proposes that
Beijing residents or any legal entity whose interests
are impaired during the Games should be compensated
financially. According
to the documents, such interests include the interruptions
to traffic and business caused by the Games.
It may herald a sea of change in
attitudes towards individual rights protection because
it is popular wisdom in this country that national
glory or collective interests often take precedence
over individual interests or rights. If the compensation
clause is finally written into the basic law of
the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, it will definitely
see an admirable precedent in handling similar matters
in the future. |
